The Helpful Villagers mod is a great addition to the game to give you more out of your villages. Typically when you find a new village it may be a good starting point for your own city or you can utilize it for trade. But ultimately villages are pretty mundane in vanilla Minecraft. With this mod you can now give your villagers professions and skills in order to become self sustained.
The most important aspect in order to give your new citizens jobs is the Guild Hall. You’ll need it to unlock jobs to assign your villagers. All you need to do is add a frame to any building with a door in the village. Then put the appropriate tool in the frame that corresponds to a specific job; i.e. axe for lumberjack, hoe for farmer, etc. Do this for each profession and you’ll be in business.
Then when you right click a villager you’ll be able to assign any jobs you’ve unlocked. After that you’ll need to either stock the guild with tools for your now employed villagers or manually give them equipment.
Then once you’ve given out jobs and tools, your villagers will go to work. It may be slow going at first but eventually you’ll have people farming, fishing and mining for you.
And one important aspect to this mod is that each villager has their own inventory. This is not only good for them to collect items they drop but you can also store your own excess inventory with them and then have them follow you around!

Amazing mod! Until my lumberjack started taking down my log cabin house, can you have them avoid player-set blocks?
how do you get them to be a merchant
place an emerald in a item thingy and put it next to the door
It’s called item frame!!
where can i find the village?? i have been finding all night or am i supposed to spawn right at the village when i started my world? anyone help 🙁
It’s just the normal village you’d find anywhere. You have to change the buildings yourself.
You must have an egg for a villager that has professions so that it’s not hard to find a normal village tho :[
Can villagers operate machinery and so on if the appropiate mods are installed?
Like a tinkerer to repair T-con tools that others use. (Tinker’s Construct Workstation)
Or a mechanic that lays out lights and things. (Redstone or a TE compatible wrench)
Or a Thaumaturge that can do some basic crucible and arcane workbench recipes when provided the means to do so. (Iron capped wooden wand)
And some compatibility with Witchery and other villager-adding mods would be nice.
This is an amazing mod! Great work. Some features that would make it even more amazing though is if you could “station” archers and soldiers (like put a archer in a tower, Soldier at a gate)
Not sure if my post got deleted or something, but GREAT mod! This is nearly perfect for what I was looking for, so thanks a ton! There is very few things I can think of to improve it, but some things might be is you can “station” guards and archers (Like on a watchtower or at a gate), and you could assign villagers where to live. Finally a few more professions:
-Blacksmith forge armor/weapons/tools to resupply the other villagers when their items break, or create items you specify.
-Alchemist, creates potions, and can enchant items for you (at a price). Could also sell Bottle o’enchanting because this mod currently makes that item hard to get.
Can you station villagers to put them in places, because I fear that if I get it they will act like normal villagers in motion; i.e walking around aimlessly until a zombie or diamond block etc. comes into view. Please clarify.
How do I use builder? Because I’ve placed my construction fence and demolish, but it says no construction fence nearby HALP
Hey man i must be missing something, both my forge and my mod that im trying to use are 1.17.1 version and it wont load this mod because it says its for an older version of Forge. I went through and tested literally every version of forge under 1.17.1 and they all giv the same error until i get to 1.13.2 and it gives an different message. long story short none of the versions of forge work with this mod…why?
Hey this is actually only for 1.7.10 not 1.17. Sorry about that!
