The Exchange Orb is a simple device used for converting items to other states in the game. Consider it as more of an upgrade device if you need a certain ore that’s better in value than what you currently have.

For example you can use it to turn redstone dust into iron ingots. Or even gold into iron or lapis lazuli.

But probably the most beneficial is turning gold into diamonds or diamonds into emeralds. And the exchange rate for both isn’t too terrible either.

And if for whatever reason you need to downgrade your ores, you can revert any of these crafts since the recipes are all reversible.
